Columbus Day

So today is Columbus Day, one of those obscure Federal holidays that hardly any private businesses abide by, which results in a lot of "Wait, the banks are closed? There's no mail? Darn."

If I were still working at my old job, today would probably involve a lot of tidying up, since the courts would all be closed for the holiday.

But I am not working at my old job. I spent most of the day tidying up anyway, as a way of closing 'open loops' in my head so I can focus on the job hunt a little more clearly. The blue chair in my room, which used to be the haven for huge heaps and stacks of crap, is now the haven of a smaller and tidier stack of crap, which I will work on filing away tomorrow. My sink and shower have been properly scrubbed. My hope is that this trend of cleanliness will creep outward into the rest of the place so I can open it for visitors.

Found another legal staffing agency literally up the street from where I live. Will be getting in touch with them. Finally got the link for assessment tests for the staffing agency I talked to last week.

I'm still grappling with the vague sense that I'm not doing enough, that I should be working harder than I am. Though, by all accounts, I am doing better than I was the last time I got tossed out of paradise about six years ago. I have a marketable skill and there are jobs out there for me. Just have to go hunt them down and persuade the people in charge of hiring that I rock.

I think I'm going to read a book and go to bed. Too much time spent in front of the computer eventually starts to drain me.

Today I took pleasure in sitting out on my patio in perfect weather for it.

Today I learned Some rather disturbing things about the man responsible for the Backstreet Boys and 'NSync.
