Getting Things Done

So just in time for me to lose my job, I finally got a handle on this iGTD program that my dad recommended to me. It's a free download for Macintosh types. (You PC people have loads of similar programs to choose from, I assure you.) It's based on the ideas in the book Getting Things Done by David Allen, who has practically made an entire industry out of the concept, don't ask me how.

I use it in a little more of a fast-and-loose fashion, rather than the overly regimented techniques that the book apparently goes into. I've always been good at making lists to clear my head of all the things eating at me, but I've not been very effective at figuring out what order to do things in. This little program allows me to sort things into "Projects" and "Contexts", which allows for more clarity. Contexts refers to where certain tasks get done--mine, for example, are "Home", "On Computer" (since I have a laptop, that isn't always at home), "Out&About" and "Second Life". This came in spectacularly handy today, actually. I was on my way out to restock on groceries and checked my "Out&About" list to see what else I could take care of. I added a trip to the library and a stop at Goodwill to drop off a box o' crap to my grocery run. Two items off the list in one go.

I've been updating my resume on various job sites and poking at jobs that look interesting. I've also started a spreadsheet of places I've already applied so I don't wind up repeating myself. Heard back from a couple more staffing agencies and I'll be meeting with one of them on Friday.

I've also been cleaning house by degrees, perhaps trying to get as much finished as possible before somebody goes and hires me.

And I've been reading up on how to set up an LLC (Limited Liability Company) in Georgia because, um, it might be coming in handy soon.

Now that I've probably gone and put you to sleep, I think I'll be heading for bed myself. Good night.

Today I took pleasure in the cool and bright morning weather.

Today I learned how to maneuver the online version Official Code of Georgia Annotated with a little less aggravation. (I've been so frustrated since they moved it to Lexis/Nexis, you have no idea . . . )

I knew her a little.

Not nearly well enough, and I'm really feeling the lack tonight, if that makes sense.
