So, yeah. Still unemployed. Will be meeting up with a couple more staffing agencies over the next two days and then I think I'm putting a moratorium on signing up for the things and put more effort into applying directly to firms. Need to punch up my cover letter and possibly give my resume another going over.

My sleep patterns have been a wreck for the past week or so. I've been awake until 2:00 AM or so and kicking myself out of bed around 10:00 AM after a night's attempt at sleep. At least one of those nights, I put the insomnia to use by signing up for another legal jobs site and doing a thorough purge of my sock drawer. (I still had navy blue knee socks from my Catholic school days. Still. Had. Them.) But the not sleepy is no fun, so I took some melatonin for a couple of nights, which turned out to be just long enough to remind me why I do NOT take melatonin. Melatonin can alleviate insomnia, but, unfortunately, it also exacerbates depression, which is the last damn thing I need right now.

I texted Mr. TBH for advice and he suggested getting a doctor to prescribe something. He seems to forget how much I loathe dealing with doctors and prescriptions. Spending so many years of a life on medication will do that to a person. I decided to buy a small box of over-the-counter sleep aids; if that doesn't help, then I'll give up and set an appointment.

My dad has given me a bit of freelance work to do, pulling abstracts from scientific papers to put in a spreadsheet for him. It's a little money in the pocket and a little purpose in the day.

Had to do an 'information session' at the Georgia Department of Labor in order to maintain my unemployment benefits. Was not nearly as soul-destroying as I feared it might be--the gal who was teaching it was dynamic, funny and refreshingly honest. I have to sign up for three more sessions over the next three months or so, assuming I don't find another full-time job between now and then. I chose the one on "Positive Attitude" for the December slot--because if I'm still unemployed by December, I'm damn well going to need a class in how to stay positive.

On the plus side, I calculated my unemployment income and found that it is at least enough to pay for my home and utilities and allow me to eat, as long as I eat cheap. Though if another financial whammy comes through, I'll probably be hitting up The Bank Of Mom And Dad for another quality-of-life loan. But at least I won't have to hit them up for mortgage payments just yet.

This concludes today's Life Of Sheila report. Thank you and goodnight.

Today I took pleasure in a walk to the grocery store.

Today I learned what aisle they keep the sleep aids in.

Every little bit helps. I appreciate it!

I really hope you find something soon. You really don't need this sort of 'tsuras (It's Yiddish I have no idea how to spell it).

As a fellow insomniac I can tell you that exercise helps if done earlier in the day. It helps balance things.

Doncha love our parents? We are so lucky.

Hey, Kath! It's tsuris, and I know that thanks to growing up around and dating the nice Jewish folkses. :) My understanding of the odd bit of Yiddish is actually fairly good. :P

Sometimes you just have to call a schlemiel a schlemiel and no other word will do.

And your folks are the Nazz for sure (as are those puppets in your av...Harry and Ron? Well done!). I'd love to have two smart and awesome parentals around. One's nice, but two are even better. And, OMG, your mother's cooking. I just gained five pounds on my bum *right now* thinking about it.

'Shay, per our phone chat, give the zipcode/biz section of your phone book a try. After you use GoogHoo maps to calculate the distance, you can get online and scope out the firms directly, and maybe even find out some useful details to use in a cover letter or interview. Such as, if they focus on criminal or entertainment law (or whatever) or if they have several divisions.

I just thought of something else--one of my profs may have contacts in legal in Atlanta. She's in game dev, but seems to know a mess of folks, and is up in ATL giving talks fairly often. Want me to ask?

I just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you *possie thoughts*

Oh and I completely understand the whole meds thing but Ambien is a gift of the gods, I swear. :)
