Yes, it's 09-09-09 and I couldn't let the day go unremarked upon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY puppetmaker40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems a lot of other people saw it as a major day, what with Beatles box sets and video games coming out and ragdolls-versus-the-postapocalypse hitting movie theaters. (My sister is scheduled to get a Beatles box set from her husband, because he is Just That Awesome.)

I got to see her just a few days ago because she'd come down for DragonCon with husband and daughter in tow. I don't really have time to do a detailed con report, so impressions in no particular order.

1. Thursday night is the new Friday night. Friday night is the new Saturday night. Saturday night is the new Sunday night. Sunday night is the new Oh Dear God Isn't This Over Yet. Monday night is the new Oh Shit I'm Dead.

2. Watching Trace Beaulieu and Bill Corbett both talking about what it was like to be Crow T. Robot was every bit as fun as it sounds.

3. The Colonnade has ZOMG!TheBestFriedChickenEvar and Kath and Peter should probably order more of it when they do their ribs and chicken party next year.

4. Junk food sushi is a hell of a lot harder to put together than you may think. Thankfully, Chuck Norris did most of the work.

5. The Dojo of the King party went off smashingly (sometimes literally, as people took to punching the breakboards) though Cesar and Javier have decreed that spiky leather jackets have now joined togas on the Do No Admit People Who Wear Them list because the people who wear them don't fucking tip.

6. Oh, and protip: when getting into one of docwhoopee's parties, you may be able to get in as a guest of a guest, but no way are you going to be able to bring six more people when you do.

7. With the exception of a Strawberry Banana Vivanno purchased hastily at Starbucks before the parade, I managed to live off of food from the Green Room and various social gatherings for the entire convention.

8. The downside of this is that if one decides to wait until after the Green Room has reopened for the evening before having dinner and wind up not eating for five hours because one wanted to see Cinematic Titanic, one might wind up having a hysterical crying fit because some guy by the elevators said precisely the wrong thing at a very bad time. One might also wind up putting up with said guy's company for far longer than one should just because he was nice enough to attempt to cheer one up, instead of kicking him in the balls when he sloppily tries to kiss one.

9. The crowds at the Hyatt during DragonCon are VERY VERY LOUD AND NEVER EVER SHUT UP EVEN AT FIVE O'CLOCK IN THE DAMNED MORNING. I recommend earplugs and a pillow. Unless, of course, SOME HIPPIE DRUM CIRCLE IS BANGING AWAY AT FIVE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING DID I MENTION THE FIVE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING PART JUST WHEN I'VE FINALLY GOT EVERY BIT OF CROWD NOISE MUFFLED AFTER DAYS OF FIGURING OUT HOW AND YOU HAVE TO PICK THE ONE NOISE THAT GETS THROUGH THE LAYERS OF FABRIC AND FOAM AND I SWEAR NEXT TIME I'M GOING TO GET OUT OF BED IN MY PAJAMAS AND STAB YOUR HIPPIE-ASS DRUM WITH THE FIRST SHARP POINTY THING I CAN GET MY HANDS ON AND THIS BEING DRAGONCON THAT WON'T BE DIFFICULT.

10. Advil PM is my new best friend.

11. Did I mention I was in the parade? Oh, yes, a few items ago. Anyway, yes, I was in the parade and it was fun to watch people cheer, clap, take pictures and try to figure out what the hell I was supposed to be as I walked past. We were praised and vilified in about equal measure, with the vilification directed at the one of our number holding a sign that said "The Game" on it. (Which you just lost, by the way.) I had a flag.

12. The weekend ended with great food and excellent company, as all long weekends really ought to.

I pretty much spent Tuesday recovering. I seem to be on evener keel now and I'm burbling with all kinds of Neat Ideas that I want to work on implementing.

Today I took pleasure in the slice of my sister's birthday cake that I got to take home.

Today I learned that Mr. TBH just got back from a trip to Europe. (Lucky bastid.)

Thank you dear.

It was nice to see you at D'Con too.

It was bloody noise in the Mariott too. The people screaming I'm going to jump at 3am got old after the first day.
