So I'm in one of those 'clear things off of the To Do List so I can think straight' kind of moods and as a result I finally installed the new needle on my long-neglected turntable and I'm now listening to my vinyl copy of Rio. Because, you know, I had to test it properly and all, and what better way to test it than with the first record I ever bought for myself?

I feel like I'm tapping my adolescent self on the shoulder and saying "Look, really, it's going to turn out okay, I promise."

Today I took pleasure in hearing the proper version of Rio after so very, very long.

Today I learned that I do, in fact, have a key to the swimming pool at The Shire.

Man, I haven't heard the "proper" version in I don't even know how long. *pines*

Supposedly they did release it on CD somewhere in some kind of deluxe edition thingy, but I've been so damn out of the loop on the Duranie circuit that I haven't kept track and I've also heard that there have been some issues with EMI botching some of the remasters, so I'm not in a huge hurry to pick it up.

It is so nice to hear someone refer to vinyl as the "proper" version. I keep telling my kids that cd's/mp3's have nothing on vinyl, I don't care if it makes me weird, lol.

Well, it's not just the sound (which, yes, is marvelous compared to a lot of compressed digital recordings these days) but also that particular mix was only released on the US vinyl and didn't make it to the official CD release. As I mentioned above, they've supposedly put that particular mix out on CD recently, but I haven't bothered to pick it up yet.
