Mummy Minding

Today I was assigned to guard a three thousand year old corpse. It's believed to be the body of Ramesses (yes, that's the way they spelled it) the First, though the DNA evidence isn't in yet. It's kept in a glass case, so I didn't have to worry about touchy-feely types. Not even much in the way of fingerprints on the glass--something, I think, about being confronted with the dead that inspires respect. Anyway, it was in a room with reproductions of the original tomb walls all around it in approximately the same positions they were in the tomb. They had little cards explaining who all the figures were, so I passed time by trying to memorize the names. I'm terrible with names (especially names like Khapri and Iunmutef) so I kept forgetting and having to relearn them. It kept me amused for most of the day. It was a Tuesday, so it was slow but there was a steady trickle of people to keep me on my feet for most of the day. People-watching is another great way to pass time on the job--reactions to Ramesses ranged from "really, really cool" to "gross".

Tonight I have group therapy and then tomorrow I need to get my tire fixed or replaced so I can make lots of little trips from point A to point B to get the rest of my stuff moved.

That is so cool...I have always wanted to be an archeologist...I would have had a ball looking at all of that...

Re: =)
Yeah, I think I want to hang on to this job for a little while . . . at least until I've seen everything in it! The sitting and waiting has the potential to be really boring, but looking at the stuff they have can be fascinating.
